For more than 10 years, every generation of WinTOTAL has seen constant ongoing improvement, with Instant Customer Updates (ICUs) coming out every few weeks. Sometimes there are so many updates over time – nearly 150 to WinTOTAL version 4 (Athena) over five years – that it can be somewhat disorienting. So, we developed this section of our site so you can see what’s “on the radar” and why.
With separate development teams for both WinTOTAL and XSites, and smaller “units” within each that focus on specific parts of the products, we’re able to work on many different areas in parallel without sacrificing resources or focus. As you can see below, we’ve always got a lot of different projects in various stages of planning and development. To learn more about what those stages are, click here.
The next update is always relatively “locked down”, so unless something is urgent, the list of new features rarely changes. Typically the “next update” package is in use by our beta members for three to four weeks before we release it “live” to the public. An item makes it into this category when there’s work actively being done to implement it. It’s beyond the idea stage but not yet at the point where we know exactly which pieces will be combined into one update package. This is by no means a comprehensive list of everything coming up – we’re just covering the more common things which you may be interested in, so don’t think something is not being worked on if it’s not in here. In the past, we'd kept our "way out" ideas here on the Aurora Status site. However, in early 2007 we launched our a la mode labs. That's become the venue for our brainstorming sessions and prototype builds of ideas that have actually begun to come to life.
