Meet the Research Fellows


Woody Fincham

Woody Fincham is a co-founder, major share holder, and managing appraiser for FM & Associates in Virginia Beach, VA.

Woody has established and run one firm, managed/trained for another firm, and most recently hung out his own shingle in April, 2004 with a fellow appraiser. Woody has trained more than eight people from licensed trainee appraisers to full state licensure, and currently has two full time licensed trainees working towards their licensure.

His just over 10 years in the business consulting and inspecting residential properties began as a home inspector and 203(k) HUD approved Consultant. Woody was one of the youngest people to ever receive that license. He also is a certified HERS energy rater through the now defunct VHERO EEM program.

Woody is working towards his SRA designation with the Appraisal Institute, and is currently enrolled to finish his degree in Business Management with a focus on Economics through Norfolk State University. He plans to eventually teach appraisal and other types of financial theory to professionals and college students.

David Braun

David Braun has been performing appraisal, review and consulting in East Tennessee since 1976.

 

He is an Appraisal Institute and USPAP instructor. He has developed and taught several appraisal continuing education seminars, and made several presentations for the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFEIC) to examiners on appraisal subjects.

 

David has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, with a major in Corporate Finance, from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He has also completed twelve hours in Personal Management at the University of Tennessee Graduate School.

 

He is an MAI and an SRA. He served on the National Instructor Subcommittee from 2001-2003, and currently serves as the General Associate Guidance Counselor for the local Appraisal Institute chapter. He is a recipient of the Roscoe Jackson Award in 2000 and 2001 by the Greater Tennessee Chapter for "strong character and leadership," and the William S. Latimore, Jr., Award in 2004 in recognition of "a significant or unique contribution to the Chapter through active participation in its activities, and ... an outstanding contribution to the realization of goals of the Chapter."

Jeff Jones

Jeff Jones's company, TechSource, is an Atlanta based technology consulting firm that specializes in serving appraisers.

 

Jeff, formerly an appraiser in South Florida, founded TechSource in 2001 with a mission to provide full time IT consulting services to real estate appraisers nationwide. Today, TechSource helps appraisers with network installation, troubleshooting and maintenance, domain and peer to peer infrastructures, home office users, office integrated software, cabling and wireless technology. It also provides on-site support and training for the complete line of a la mode software products including WinTOTAL, XSites and XSellerate.

 

TechSource is also known for providing "outside-the-box" technology solutions such as Virtual Office remote servers that allow users to use their business applications from any internet connected computer anywhere in the world. Their expanded service area is nationwide.

Jim Simmons

Jim Simmons has been running a successful one-man shop in Merced County in Northern California for 10 years, and has been a fee appraiser for more than 20.

 

A lifelong resident of the Golden State, Jim earned a B.S. in Agriculture from Cal State Chico in 1975. A transferee from junior college, Jim reports that he chose his major alphabetically from the junior college's handbook, understandably skipping over Accounting. After college he joined Bank of America as an agricultural appraiser.

 

Jim helps run a unique Appraisers Co-Op in Merced County. Members contribute a monthly fee and voluntarily submit the first page of their URAR on sales transactions in exchange for weekly sales reports.
